Spoiler alert: This is not going to be a Christmas tale of how the glowing Christmas spirit’s presence is inverse to growing up. However, it is going to be about a myth that I have been pondering about. And like all myths, it starts with a question:
Have you ever wondered why we wrap up presents with a bow?
If it was for secrecy’s sake, wouldn’t mere wrapping paper have sufficed? Maybe we’re compensating for the actual content of our present? Or maybe we just really like unnecessary expenditures which we blame on the holiday sales and the air of generosity floating about?
But I have come to believe that perhaps it is a reminder that no matter how much we try to tie things together, it is inevitable that they be unraveled by something outside our control.
We look towards the new year with hope, yet it seems that every year we are left with more loose ends than we can tie.
But that’s Life — it’s never like the holiday movies where all the plot lines wrap up in a neat little bow.
This year has been one hell of a ride, but it’s almost time to say farewell to 2016.
It’s time to wrap up, even if it’s one mess of a bow.
And if you can take anything from this outfit, it’s this — anything and everything can look good all wrapped up in a little black bow.
The contents of what’s wrapped, however, are a completely different story.
